Friedrichshafen Airport History

The airport originally opened in 1915 under the name “Löwental Airport.

In March 1936 the first Zeppelin passenger test flights took place, before a historic flight to Rio de Janeiro (which took just over 100 hours).

During the 1980s a new terminal was built and an instrument landing system installed.
